A Covered Mind
One thing about me, I can be an overthinker. Sometimes I catch myself spiraling in a wave of thoughts. There were times when I overthought myself into a bad, even sad, mood based on things far from my reality.
Negative thoughts such as: negative self-thoughts, thoughts of rejection, etc.
One time I was lying on my bed and caught myself in a negative chain of thoughts. The Holy Spirit shook me out of it and reminded me: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7.
Immediately I woke up and declared the words of the Lord over my mind and over my life, with a specific verse that my aunt once blessed me with:
“I destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5.
You see, not every thought is yours. Maybe this might sound crazy to you, but read it again: not every thought is yours. Some are attacks of the enemy to cloud your vision of reality and trick you into projecting destruction, pain, and chaos into your life. If he tricks me long enough into thinking these negative thoughts, they could become the reality of my heart and then Proverbs 23:7 comes to pass.
With this being said, if you tend to be an overthinker just like me, cover your mind with Scripture. Fill yourself so much with the words of the Lord that as soon as something contrary to His Word, a lie, enters your mind, you can cast it out with the truth.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things.” Philippians 4:8.
Friend, one thing I know for sure: I am nothing without the Lord, and He is my safe haven in all aspects of life. If you tend to overthink, run to Jesus. Run to His Word and abide in Him. He is the answer to all our needs.
