Happiness
I’ve heard a saying that got me thinking. “Happiness does not exist, there is only happy moments. It’s up to you to make these ‘happy moments ‘last as long as possible”. As a Christian, someone who said yes to Jesus, it was easy to go against this saying. Because the bible says that God is happiness.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5: 22-23
The Spirit of God is God himself. Synonym for happiness is “Joyful”. But if God is Joy, why do I as a Christian sometimes lack joy?
The psalmist says in Psalm 16:11,
You make known to me the path of life. You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Happiness does exist! But even for me as Christian there can only be “happy moments”. I must spend time daily with God, to experience true happiness. By seeking Gods face daily, I will and can be joyful. That precious moment in the presence of Joy Himself will fill me up allowing the true meaning and feeling of joy to be a reality in my life.
Happiness, Joy, does exist. It’s up to me to make it a reality in my life.
So, reflecting on the saying mentioned at the beginning, based on the truth of the Lord, happiness does exist. However, I do agree that happiness and joy can only be fleeting moments if they are based on anything other than God. By spending time with God and seeking His face daily with all my heart, happiness and joy will become the gospel of my life.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13
